Recently I have been working with James Stiles of New England Casting to develop a set of images for some of the local talent he is representing. Here are some photos of Amanda taken around the mill here in Brunswick Maine.

More infromation about Amanda and her goals as an actress can be found at New England Casting using the link above.

I just got an ad placement in a travel guide developed here in Maine called Travel Maine. They will be using some photos I shot of various town landmarks for a local real estate firm called Foundations Real Estate. Here are some of the images they will be using:

An Introduction

Hi folks, where to begin? I guess the first place would be to introduce myself. As you can see from the name of the blog my name is Mark Hensley , be kind of funny if it weren't . Like many people I developed a love of photography early in my life in school. I did the usual stuff like work for the school paper and year book and of course the photography club. As I transitioned from school life to real life something had to take a back seat and that was my photography. I'm sure that's not too uncommon. It wasn't until about six years ago that I began to find my way back to photography. First as a hobby when I became an active member of the Portland Photography Club, one of the oldest clubs in the country where I met a number of great people at the club that really encouraged me as I rekindled my love of photography. One person that really helped me was Dave Higgins. I have to say he is and will always be my best teacher and my best critic.

I remember when I first met Dave he gave me a no holds barred critique of a photo I submitted for a club competition. My initial reaction was what the heck does this guy know. But then I got my ego out of the way and I was able to say "This guy knows a lot, I should listen", and listen I did for next three years. I won't say my ego didn't get bruised here and there but I knew Dave always had my photographic development at heart and with his input I continued to develop my photography skills. And as I continue to develop that skills everyday I hope I never let me ego get in the way of learning something new or a better way to shoot or process an image so please feel free to keep me honest.

These days the friend and photographer working hard to keep me honest and on track is Scott Eccleston. He continues to be a good friend and mentor as I build my business and skills.

I know, I know, what am I thinking? Trying to start a new business in this environment is crazy but that's ok life is always a little crazy so why not. So with the support of my family I have taken the next big leap of faith in my life and begun to pursue photography as a profession. I know it will be very hard and current economic times will make it even harder but I have to make it work. I made my logo to include a "2.0" in the logo to signify the second half of my life.

I have had a wonderful life thus far. I have high hopes for the second half as well. As I go forward I hope to continuously post my work as well as my trials and tribulations on starting this new pursuit. Welcome to my ride, hop on back and hold on, here we go!!!!

Please always feel free to share your own experiences or opinions here, I would love to hear about your own efforts to start your photography business. Maybe we can even save each other some headaches along the way. Until then,
